Wakatoon
Project in partnership - service redesign
Wakatoon is a startup specialized in the creation of animated coloring books tailored for children, designed to enrich their creativity by transforming their drawings into dynamic videos. Our primary objective was to enhance the overall user experience of the service thanks to research and the understanding of the app’s primary audience: children.

My role
We conducted a comprehensive study integrating user feedback, market analysis, and benchmark. Our aim was to promote service adoption among a young user target while ensuring responsible digital usage throughout the user journey. After an extensive audit of the service, we redesigned the screens to make them easier to use and coherent for drawing steps outside of the app. Significant emphasis was placed on UI, to deliver an immersive and entertaining experience within driven environments around Wakatoon’s stories. Children are actively engaged from app entry until they create their own animated stories.
Key learnings
In developing an experience tailored for children, I discovered the effectiveness of integrating gamification to enhance adoption and understanding of a service, if implemented judiciously. Focusing the experience around a tiger mascot proved to be an interesting strategy for adapting content to different age groups, facilitating the presentation of information, tutorials, and storytelling within the app. Additionally, encouraging children to momentarily transition away from the app by engaging in offline activities enriched their overall experience.
Then?
Through the development of a new brand image for Wakatoon, we ensured its competitiveness in the market with a distinctive and recognizable identity. The journey has been tailored to create a smoother experience and accommodate usage from a young age, promoting responsible digital engagement, with or without adult supervision.
